Orb in Antique Photo

Glenn Skinner from upstate New York shared this photo and writes:

I buy antiques all the time.This photo was in a photo album I
recently purchased.It is my opinion that this is hands down, the best
paranormal / Orb photo that I have ever seen. This dates to the
1920’s. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Glenn, I love the photo. Thanks for sharing. I think it debunks that idea that orbs only show up on digital cameras. I find it especially fascinating that the orb seems to have some sort of tail, like a comet.

More Skeptics on Orbs

I don’t blame people for being skeptical about orbs - if you haven’t experienced the strange and unexplained yourself, you may have a hard time believing other people who have. The Orb Zone that suggests that all orbs are dust particles. I have reason to believe otherwise (and a good story to share later), but it’s certainly likely that some orbs are indeed dust or raindrops. That doesn’t mean they all are, however.

Here’s an Interesting Theory on Orbs

Are orbs an actual spirit or are they something else? One theory considers that the orb may be a side effect of the spirit, not the spirit itself. Consider the following from Dave Juliano’s article, “What are Orbs?”:

One of the leading theories concerning what orbs are and the one that I lean towards the most is that they are not the spirit at all. The orb is the energy being transferred from a source (i.e. powerlines, heat energy, batteries, people, etc) to the spirit so they can manifest. This may not even be a conscious thing the spirit is doing, just a natural way they get their energy. This would explain why the orbs are round balls. According to the laws of Physics energy being transferring like that would assume is natural shape of a sphere. This theory can also be tied into the EMF readings we get during spirit activity.

Hm. That is an interesting theory indeed. But then I must ask: If the orb is actual energy such as heat or electricity, shouldn’t we be able to measure it with standard electrical equipment? That no-one has apparently done this makes me think the “energy” involved is more of the “chi” variety than the electrical variety.

Orbs as UFOs?

I think a distinction should be made between orbs that get caught on camera and the flying “orbs” that are sometimes reported by UFO enthusiasts. I’m open to the idea of UFOs being “alien” in origin, but my personal feeling is that the orbs caught on camera are spiritual in nature, whereas the orbs seen flying around are a different type of energy. In this video, we see some orbs in the sky, which were apparently identified later as “Chinese lanterns” released to float in the atmosphere. You decide for yourself:

Why Are Orbs In Graveyards?

I always wondered why a ghost would want to hang around a graveyard. After all, it’s dark and spooky there at night. Some suggest that souls don’t stick around their bodies like that…but if that’s the case, why do so many find orbs popping up on their graveyard photos? Are they ghosts or some other spiritual energy?

I tell ya…if I end up being a ghost, I’m not going to hang around a graveyard. There’s too much else to see in the world…the pyramids in Egypt…the Great Wall of China…Johnny Depp in the shower.

Strange Fog in Savannah Graveyard

I used to live across the street from a cemetery and I regularly took photos there, hoping to catch a ghost or two. Nothing. No fog, no orbs, no strange lights. (I did only go in the daytime.) These folks, however, got a shot of some very ghostly fog in a Savannah Graveyard:

Ghost Orbs in Leap Castle, Ireland

Leap Castle (pronounced “Lep”) is said to be the most haunted castle in Ireland. I remember watching a TV documentary about this place some years ago. There is a dungeon called an “Ubliet” there, which is more of a hole that they throw people in to die. Very sad and scary. What is it about abandoned mental asylums that make them so darn scary? Perhaps it is the remnants of the collective energies of the mentally ill. Here is an interesting video of a tour of an old mental asylum, complete with EVPs:

Snowy Orbs at the Red Mill

Orb photos, I found, can often be soothing instead of sinister. Here is a lovely photo of orbs in a wintery, quaint environment…they almost look like they could be big snowballs suspended in the sky.

Collection of Amateur EVP Recordings

Here are some interesting EVP recordings from an amateur paranormal investigator. EVP, if you were not aware, stands for “Electronic Voice Phenomenon.” Apparently, electronic equipment can pick up what we can’t hear with our ears…and some people think these strange sounds may, in fact, be the voices of the dead…
